saturday retrospective

7:30am. too early to be up. WAY. i blame the wind induced chattering doors and chippus dorkus, the noisy tail-chasing cat. i may have a 9-5 job now [bleah] but i revert on the weekends. enjoyably so, i might say :) but after getting up twice [once to bolster the doors and again to throw beanie babies at he-who-attacketh-acoustic-ceilings], i couldn’t get back to sleep. i guess it’s a good thing. if i can stay awake all day, i may get to bed at a reasonable hour tonight and not have to suffer through my normal monday mornings. with weekend reversion withdrawals. gah.

speaking of bolstering the chattering doors…, zakks bedroom door was one of the them. i had to peek downstairs, to make sure he was sleeping on the couch, before i would venture into his room to check for open windows. because the *FYOHSW was here last night and i didn’t know if she was still here. of course, i HAVE warned him about FYOHSW’s. and you’d think he’d be a bit more self-vigilant about it, seeing as how it’s where HE came from. poor fatherless boy [yes, i'm afraid i still carry a little guilt about for that. just a bit]. and yes, i AM grateful not to be a grandmother yet. i just want to REMAIN grateful a bit longer, you see… i must admit, though, that i do think i will enjoy grandmotherhood someday.
hrmm. i suppose that i should not have said THAT aloud…

now back to the retrospective thing. saturday was an interesting day. jos and i got out of the house, for a change, to see Brendan’s Movie. of course, it shall ever be branded Brendan’s Movie because we saw his name in the credits :) it was an Incredibly Deliciously Cleverly Amazingly FUN movie and i will see it again [and so should YOU!]. then, eventually, i will buy it on DVD and love it forever. ’til death do we part.

but before we went to the movies, jocelyn and i had a lovely talk about sex & STD’s…

…then she had the nerve to ask me who was the best kisser and we started creeping into the realm of ‘parents having sex’ and, well, that was the end of THAT conversation. so off we went to the late show. we snuck some western bacon cheeseburgers and fries into the movies and had a thoroughly great time.

*FYOHSW: friends you occasionally have sex with

  1. I’m so glad you enjoyed the movie. We saw it for the 3rd and 4th times last weekend, and it just keeps getting better. Insider information: the orchestration was done by exactly who you think it was done by - long retired original James Bond musicians. It really is just that cool, on that many levels.
(also: imdb finally has Brendan listed! yay!)

But not as cool as your teenage daughter confiding in you and asking personal questions. Not by far. I bet she even knows how lucky she is to have such a great mom.

  2. It is so cool that she confides in you that way.
    How lucky are you?
And more important, how lucky is she that has a mom that is cool enough to let her speak freely about such things.

I don’t know how cool I’d/will be if/when I catch a FYOHSW in the house. I may lose it.

  3. I have teenagers and I’ve had “talks”, especially the “boy” !!! The boy, 16, is not sure if he’s ready yet. I get his view as well as is friends view, interesting to say the least. The girl, 14, says no way, I’m too young to get married!!!….good girl, keep thinking that way!!

I would never have “talk” with ratty on that couch, everyone seems to fall asleep on it !!

  4. sleep is the ONLY thing that couch is good for. and that’s only if you’re a kid or a dog.

  5. I’m with you on the FYOHSW and our kiddos. Sure mine is away now at college but I’m still not ready to be a grandmother! I NEED a few more years of peace and quiet before that starts up! AND she needs to finish college in my opinion before she starts a family….unlike her mother! Hopefully they learn from our experiences….hopefully…

You, however, are a more cool mom than me because I still ask for no “hanky panky” in my house when she and a friend are staying over…maybe that’s why she hardly ever comes home anymore…oh well…
