do you crochet with string?

i used to. i used to crochet bookmarks and barbie clothes. i was rudely reminded of this [VERY early one morning] when chip, who likes to chase his tail on top of the highest bookcase of all, knocked a very large basket of string down, from the top of the highest bookcase of all, during his teenage feline gymnastics. sometimes i hate cats. waking up to crashing thumps and bouncing spools of string is unnerving, to say the least. it’s even more annoying than the little ‘toys’ i’ve been finding in the bathtub:

  • a paper bag
  • ponytail holders, some chewed into pieces
  • tub stopper
  • one of jocelyn’s old plastic necklaces, in pieces
  • bottle caps
  • plastic milk carton ring
  • q-tips
  • dental floss
  • chapstick
  • pantyliners and tampons with bitey teethmarks in the wrappers

actually, anything that makes a lot of rattling noises, while being chased around and around in the bathtub, makes for a good cat toy. and the possibilities are endless, unfortunately. the last little ‘toys’ that were found in there were several 3-4″ pieces of plastic coated wire.

    plastic coated.
    wire.
    IN PIECES.

those ‘toys’ turned out to be some of the wire that USED to connect speakers to my bedroom stereo. what kind of cat chews through WIRES?!? a cat with an electrocution death wish, methinks. a little, black, teenage cat who USED to be called ‘chippy chip’ or ‘mr. stink-ass’, but who now answers to the name of ‘CHIPYOULITTLEBASTARD!’

    1. My older cat Kali chews on wires. They just have a taste for platsic. I had to get some apple bitter and spray it on all my electric cords to break her of the habit. It worked but I have to spray them about every 6 months.

    2. Bring him over and we’ll introduce him to H.B. (otherwise known as heathen bastard)

    3. What is it with those rings from the milk jug? Our cat goes fricking crazy for them. Next question is, where do they all go? My guess is he sends them to chip to put in your tub.

    4. If you can’t find something, a cat toy or the plastic rings ( in chips case, they are in the tub) move your couches and chairs.
The boys and I did this the other day and holy crap, pens, pencils, toy mice, ear rings, all the stuff we couldn’t find. It was like christmas under there.

actually, i’m REALLY afraid to look under the fridge…

    6. Oy! I forgot about the fridge…lol

    7. He might not be such a littlebastard if he had the right company. Tell, you what… it’ll tear me up to do it, but email your addy and i’ll fed-ex BigFatKitty to you. Gladly. If my theory’s wrong, well, i’ll send an apology. You, of course, get to keep the cat in any case.

    8. ha ha ha…the cat ..too funny…I have TWO TEENAGERs …they plot together… this morning my new plant was all over the floor, always chunks of carpet to be found (only KEnnys room has carpet) and the morning laps are the best (I usually miss them because Im at work , now I understand poor Marks plight!)

    9. But he’s so cute! And he seems very smart, too.

    10. what a little shit! i can relate///

    11. my daughter would go nuts to have all that string for all her little art projects she likes doing - we had to have our cat put to sleep several weeks ago and my sister is planning on buying us a kitten. I keep thinking about all these things pro’s and con’s about having another cat and your post has definately added to the cons LOL. =)
